Nicholas Easton is a Graduate Assistant in the Urban and Community Studies program at the University of Connecticut, while finishing his Ph. D. program in Political Science at UConn. He holds a A.B. in Urban Studies from Brown and a Masters of Public Administration from U.R.I. He has a long record of involvement in government and politics in Providence, R.I., where he served as a City Councilman for 12 years, the last 6 as Council President, representing a low-income minority-majority ward in the city's Southside. He also served as head of the city's Code Enforcement Department, Deputy Director of Building Inspection, Deputy Director of Home Improvements for Providence, Asst. Director of Housing and Neighborhood Development and Assoc. Director for Construction and Project Management in the Dept. of Planning and Development. He served on numerous boards and commissions including the Capital Center Commission, the Providence Housing Authority, the Historical Review Commission, the License Bureau, the Civic Center Authority, the Providence Public Library Board and Secretary of the Providence Redevelopment Authority. He also co-founded and served on the board of several non-profit groups in R.I. and Florida.
He has written a book on the career of former Connecticut House Speaker Thomas Ritter (as yet, unpublished) and taught for several years at UConn and other area colleges including R. I. College, Clark University and Trinity, in addition to many individual lectures at R. I. colleges and universities.
